Host Joshua “Chachi” Cruz and The Tropicabana Trio (Winter Commander, Hannah Jane and Lyn Webber) welcome this week’s special guest: Broadway diva, Brandi Massey, accompanied by music director-pianist John Bronsten. Brandi is a powerhouse entertainer who has performed on Broadway in many shows including Wicked and The Lion King . (On Tuesday, November 26, cabaret’s latest obsession—and for all the right reasons—Can Yasar will be the featured vocalist.)
In addition to great music, comedian Liz Davies will have you crying real tears with her amazing standup routine, which will no doubt be pointedly relevant in these days where we need a few laughs and point outs. Joshua “Chachi” Cruz is an Actor, Singer and Father who finds himself lucky to be performing on stage and screen in NYC. John Bronston (Pianist) was music director of The Harder They Come (Public Theatre), the associate music director of A Man of No Importance (Classic Stage Company), and was the Music Direction Fellow at Tina on Broadway. He is the creator and music director of the cabaret series Creating In Color, dedicated to producing concerts of classic musicals with predominantly Black casts. @johnbronstonmusic
Brandi Massey (Guest Vocalist) studied Musical Theater at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy gracing the stage along side other powerhouses such as opera singer Jessye Norman and Grammy Award winner Mary J. Blige. Brandi’s vocal prowess helped nab Broadway leading lady roles such as Celie and Nettie in Oprah Winfrey’s The Color Purple, starring Chaka Khan, Be Be Winans and Fantasia Barrino, the cover role of Elphaba in Wicked, The Radio in Caroline Or Change and appearing as the first african american Lucy in Jekyll and Hyde which co starred Sebastian Bach and David Hasselhoff also starring in The London’s West End production of The Lion King as Nala. Regionally she performed as Mary in Jesus Christ Superstar, Finian’s Rainbow, Bubbling Brown Suger, Dorathy in The Wiz directed by the original choreographer George Fasion, and had the pleasure of playing Lorrell in Dreamgirls costarring Cindy Heron-Braggs of En Vouge and the legendary Jennifer Holiday. @brandichavonnemassey
Winter Commander (she/her) is a 2019 AMDA graduate from South Jersey. Since graduation she has performed in a number of NYC staged readings and cabarets. She has performed in Busch Gardens Williamsburg production of American Jukebox: Summer Remix where she performed multiple iconic songs through the generations. She is now singing and serving at Ellen’s Stardust Diner while pursuing her professional career as a performer. Hannah Jane is a double first namer who made NYC her home in 2014. The 2019 Julie Wilson Award winner has multiple critically acclaimed solo shows and is on the board for the Manhattan Association of Cabarets along with being a social media manager. Lyn Webber is a 22 year old AMDA graduate from South Carolina, currently working at Ellen’s Stardust Diner. After graduating, she had the opportunity of performing for Disney in the Festival of the Lion King. For a year she was cast as Zawadi, a mainstage vocalist. During that time, she also sang and danced with a group of vocalists in Epcot (Joyful), in celebration of Christmas/Kwanzaa. Shortly after she was cast in a Cabaret at The Renaissance Theatre, celebrating SIX the Musical, where she performed “Heart of Stone”. Liz Pryce Davies is excited to be back at Lips! She began her performance career as an actor, singer, improviser and sketch writer. She made her standup debut in 2021, and 2 months after her first show she was selected as a finalist in Gotham Comedy Club’s competition for the “Funniest Person Who Works in a Restaurant.” She was featured in the pilot they filmed of the competition, and has since performed numerous times at Gotham on bills with comedians much funnier and more successful than she is, including Jim Gaffigan and Jerry Seinfeld. His shows written and performed by him include: “A Hundred Dollar Bill,” at the United Solo Festival at Theater Row, received the “Best Autobiographical Show” award; “Smoke Point” at The Brick; “Master of Time” including Yasar’s original songs, received the “Best Singer” nominee at the New York Theatre Festival at Theater Latea; “Only Place I Belong” the musical at The Tank; critically acclaimed cabaret debut “Turkish Rhapsody” at Don’t Tell Mama. He’s an advocate of queer/immigrant stories and a collaborator/writer at The What Co’s CrossPolunation supported by the Dramatists Guild.
Scott Barbarino is the Producer of the Award Winning internet show PianoBarLive! In, New Faces of Broadway”, The Follow Spot, Terese Genecco and her Little Big Band, Cheez Whiz at The Parkside Lounge with Sweetie Barbarino is a founder and lead singer of “Scott Barbarino & The Bev-Naps,” a retro-vocal comedy doo-wop group that won two MAC Awards (1999––Vocal Group and 2000––Musical Comedy Group).
