In celebration of the upcoming 100th birthday of the French-Armenian singer, songwriter and actor Charles Aznavour, Formidable! Aznavour (kicking off a 2024 world tour) plays on Saturday, January 13 at 7:30 PM at The Town Hall. The show, conceived and directed by Gil Marsalla, stars Jules Grison as the legendary Chansonnier. Music is provided by Philippe Villa (piano), Frédéric Viale (accordion), Benoit Pierron (Percussion, Xylophone) and Giliard Lopes (double bass).
Formidable! Aznavour strolls through the back streets of Paris in the era of “Bohemia” to give us an insight into the career of Charles Aznavour through his greatest songs. There are projected images and videos at the back of the stage to enhance the production’ story telling. Given his blessing before Aznavour’s death (October 1, 2018, at the age of 94), Marsala has put together this show “worthy of his incredible career, and of the icon that he has become today.”
Born in Paris on May 22, 1924, Charles Aznavour ‘s career spanned over seven decades. He was renowned for his emotional voice and poignant lyrics, writing hits, including “La Bohème” and “She.” He gained international acclaim and captivated audiences in multiple languages. He also forged friendships with Charles Trenet and Edith Piaf and toured extensively in the United States and Canada. With over 800 songs to his name and over 180 million records sold around the world, Aznavour collaborated with international stars and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
