The album release show, Flying High: Still Soaring, a Women’s History Month tribute, plays at Birdland on Friday, March 27-Sunday, March 29 at 7 PM and 9:30 PM. Featured are Champian Fulton (music director), Buster Williams, Bria Skonberg, Tahira Clayton, Carmen Bradford and Nicole Zuraitis
The release honors the big band “canaries” who taught the world to swing—a follow-up to 2024’s Flying High album, continuing a multi-year project honoring the women vocalists of the swing era. The project was conceived and produced by Suzanne Waldowski, founder of the Songbook Ink jazz label and Executive Director of the Jazz at the Ballroom concert series.
