MAC Award and Broadway World award nominee, Dorian Woodruff, brings his show Welcome Home: Everybody Has a Story. to The Beach Cafe on Saturday, February 2nd at 8:00 pm. Woodruff’s show is replete with stories and songs about his lifelong, nosy fascination with interiors and all things opulent—from fabrics and fixtures in duplexes on the East River to furniture and wallpaper in crumbling mansions on the St. Lawrence River. Other people’s homes have always been Woodruff’s playground.
In this musical cabaret, Woodruff weaves together stories of traveling and performing all over the world, with the songs of Rodgers and Hart, Jimmy Webb, Barry Manilow, Mary Chapin Carpenter and many more. Woodruff also regales with tales of his grandmother—a Chanel-wearing, former Ziegfeld girl—plus star-struck encounters at vintage NYC Woolworths counters and playing piano in the 1970s for his childhood idols in smoky, downtown jazz bars.
Dorian Woodruff is a versatile cabaret and jazz singer, director and writer, and a 2016 MAC Award Nominee for Male Vocalist. He has performed in clubs internationally with stops in Las Vegas, Nashville, London, Paris and Berlin. In New York, Woodruff has appeared at Joe’s Pub, Feinstein’s 54 Below, Don’t Tell Mama, and others; his shows I Believe in Love and Standard Time payed at the Metropolitan Room and in Chicago at Davenport’s and The Jazz Cave at the Nashville Jazz Workshop. This fall, Woodruff appeared on the opening night of the 2018 New York Cabaret Convention in Lincoln Center’s Rose Hall.
