Encore Performance Added for John Burn’s “Don’t Call Me Shirley!” at The Duplex on April 20th

Following a sold-out debut, tenor/comedian John Burns has scheduled an encore performance of Don’t Call Me Shirley!, a tribute to Shirley Bassey, at The Duplex on Friday, April 20 at 7 PM. The show features songs made famous by Dame Bassey, such as “Let Me Be the One,” “I (Who Have Nothing),” “History Repeating,” “Never, Never, Never” and her signature classic, “Goldfinger,” among many more.

John Burns made his cabaret debut in January 2016 with What Are You Waiting For? and followed that production with the premiere of Gay Kid on a Cattle Ranch later that same year. In 2017, joining with singer/comedienne Holly Dunn, he premiered their musical rom-com pastiche, 50 Shades of Gay. All three shows were presented at The Duplex.

Burns has been performing in New York City for nearly 30 years, working with such composers as Jeanine Tesori, Ricky Ian Godon, Steve Alper and Sara Knapp, and David Friedman and Deborah Brevort. He has performed in the Stonewall, Night Variations directed by Tony-nominated writer/director Tina Landau and in The Singapore Mikado directed by David B. Fuller and Judith Jarosz. He was featured in two Alper/Knapp productions—Chamberlain: A True Civil War and Rappaccini’s Daughter (with Tony- and Emmy-winner Kristin Chenowith and Oscar-winner JK Simmons).

Don’t Call Me Shirley! plays on Friday, April 20, at 7:00 PM at The Duplex, 61 Christopher Street (at 7th Avenue) in New York City. Advanced tickets are $20.00 and can be purchased at johnburns.live or purplepass.com. Tickets at the door are $25.00. There is a two-drink minimum.
