Ellen’s Stardust Diner, in the heart of the theatre district in Times Square in New York City, is home to the world-famous singing waiters, the Stardusters. The New Faces of 2017 Starduster Showcase: Broadway Night, on Tuesday, August 22 at 8:00 PM will be held at the Iridium, the music venue which shares the building with the Diner (1650 Broadway, near West 51 Street, next to the Winter Garden Theatre) and is on the lower level. The show will feature five Stardusters celebrating the music of the Great White Way. At the piano will be musical director/arranger Barry Levitt, with hosting duties shared by Lisa Asher and Scott Barbarino, Artistic Director of Ellen’s Stardust Diner. Emcee Lisa Asher also dons her director’s hat for this special night presented by the Diner. is a collaborative effort to give Stardusters the opportunity to showcase their individual talents, in an effort to get these talented individuals work in theatre and live entertainment. New Faces of 2017 is curated by ScoBar Entertainment.
Costs: Cover charge is $15 (or $10 for students with ID) plus a $15 minimum purchase of food and/or beverages from The Iridium menu).
Led by multi-award-winning Levitt on piano, the Stardusters featured for this showcase are Rachel Balko, Nicole Calkins, Jimmy Larkin, James Oliver and Morgan Billings Smith.
Who’s Who in the Cast:
Rachel Balko is grateful to be a Starduster and part of this showcase. An Ohio native, she attended Kent State University and graduated with a Masters of Music in Voice Performance in 2016. Favorite past roles include Blanche Barrow (Bonnie & Clyde), Kira (Xanadu) & Phyllis (Iolanthe).
Nicole Calkins is originally from Rhode Island and has called New York home for almost two years. She holds a degree in musical theatre from Rhode Island College and has performed at various theatres throughout New England. She is continuing her training in the Meisner Technique at the Matthew Corozine Studio.
Jimmy Larkin‘s credits include Lefou (national tour of Disney’s Beauty & the Beast, BroadwayWorld Award), Paper Mill Playhouse, Ogunquit Playhouse, Westchester Broadway Theatre, Theatre by the Sea, Florida Studio Theatre, Harbor Lights Theatre Co. and Turtle Lane Playhouse (IRNE Award).
James Oliver is thrilled to be a Starduster and part of this showcase. An Ohio native, he attended Kent State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre in 2016. Favorite past roles include Marius (Les Misérables), Link (Hairspray) & Anthony (Sweeney Todd).
Morgan Billings Smith loves her job at Ellen’s and the family she’s created there. Recently seen in the national touring production of Elf (Deb), her regional credits include Little Women (Amy), The Cherry Orchard (Anya) and Peter and the Starcatcher (Molly). She is a Marymount Manhattan College alumna.
