Tony Award winner James Monroe Iglehart (Aladdin, Hamilton) will announce the nominations for the 74th Tony Awards on Thursday, October 15. The announcement will stream on the Tony Awards’ YouTube channel beginning at noon.
The Nominating Committee will meet on October 13 to vote on the nominations. The Broadway League and American Theatre Wing—co-presenters of the awards—have already determined that productions that had opened on or before February 19 will be considered eligible. Although some shows had begun previews or opened between that date and March 12, the start of the Broadway shutdown, nominators or voters may not have seen them in time to make determinations.
The 2020 Tony Awards ceremony will take place digitally later this year but an exact streaming date for the ceremony has yet to be set.

Meanwhile, The Broadway League has announced that Broadway will remain shut down through May 30, 2021. Dates for each returning and new Broadway show will be announced as individual productions determine the performance schedules for their respective shows. Touring Broadway performances in theatres across North America have also been affected.
Charlotte St. Martin, President of the Broadway League, said, “With nearly 97,000 workers who rely on Broadway for their livelihood and an annual economic impact of $14.8 billion to the city, our membership is committed to re-opening as soon as conditions permit us to do so. We are working tirelessly with multiple partners on sustaining the industry once we raise our curtains again,” said Theatregoers holding tickets for dates through May 30, 2021 should contact their point of purchase for details about exchanges and refunds.”
