Among those on hand to present the 2017 MAC Awards will be author and legendary talk show host DICK CAVETT, as well as Broadway stars NIKKI M. JAMES (The Book of Mormon; Les Misérables), KAREN MASON (Sunset Boulevard; Hairspray), SALLY MAYES (She Loves Me; Steel Magnolias), SHARON McNIGHT (Starmites), DOREEN MONTALVO (On Your Feet; In the Heights), and MARY TESTA (Xanadu; On the Town).
Mr. Cavett, his roots firmly anchored in cabaret, honed his craft as one of the bedrock acts that Jan Wallman booked at the original Duplex when she began managing there in 1959. He along with Woody Allen, Bert Convy, Rodney Dangerfield, Robert Klein, George Segal, Marcia Lewis, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, Joanne Worley, Linda Lavin, Ruth Buzzi, Joan Rivers and Barbra Streisand helped establish cabaret in New York during the 1960s a decade during which television scouts frequented the room leading to greater exposure to the cabaret genre.
The Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs (MAC) is also pleased to announce the 2017 MAC Award Songwriter nominees in the categories of SONG and COMEDY/NOVELTY SONG. They join the previously announced nominees in other categories who will all be celebrated at the 31st Annual MAC Awards.
