Actor-singer, David Sabella, best known as the original “Mary Sunshine” in the long-running Broadway revival of Chicago, lit up 54 Below with his show Razzle Dazzle of Chicago. Conceived, directed and performed by Sabella, the evening was as much a celebration of his artistry as it was a look back at his remarkable journey on and off the Broadway stage.
With warmth and humor, Sabella shared personal anecdotes from his career, offering an insider’s glimpse into life inside the world of Chicago. His stories—sometimes heartfelt, sometimes hilarious—painted a vivid portrait of both the grit and glamour of show business.
Under the superb music direction of Mark Hartman, with basist Sean Murphy and drummer Mike Lunoe, the trio provided vibrant, stylish support that perfectly complemented Sabella’s powerhouse vocals. Each song was performed with passion and polish, infused with his unmistakable love for performing. Whether belting Broadway favorites or crooning more intimate numbers, Sabella captivated the room with both his voice and his heart.
Razzle Dazzle of Chicago proved to be more than a cabaret—it was a deeply personal celebration of a performer’s life in the theater. Sabella reminded his audience why Chicago continues to dazzle after nearly three decades, and why he remains such a treasured part of its legacy. At 54 Below, David Sabella didn’t just recount his Broadway journey—he embodied it, with a sparkle that left the audience entertained, inspired, and eager for more.
