Black History Month in February 2023, and Women’s History Month in March 2023 will be celebrated at Dizzy’s Club, located in Jazz at Lincoln Center
In February, McCoy Mrubata’s Celebrate Africa brings South African flair to the Big Apple, Nilson Matta brings the Afro-Brazilian perspective, and the Gotham Kings deliver a festive Mardi Gras celebration. Trailblazer Stanley Crouch is honored for not only co-founding Jazz at Lincoln Center, but for being a champion of the music he dedicated his life to advancing. The Roy Hargrove Big Band brings the energy with Hargrove originals, standard tunes, and new music from current band members. Talented pianists perform at Dizzy’s this month, including Aaron Diehl with his trio, Sean Mason and Cyrus Chestnut in celebration of his 60th birthday.
Women band leaders will be prominently featured throughout March, including nine-time Grammy Award-nominee and vocalist Tierney Sutton; singer and instrumentalist Thembelihle Dunjana hailing from Cape Town, South Africa; vocalist Alexis Cole performing songs from the classic and contemporary American Songbook penned by women; and vocalist Judy Carmichael leading her trio. Dizzy’s Club also welcomes fan favorite, bassist Endea Owens whose leadership has expanded to include community organizing, artistic curation, and facilitating cultural exchange as a global ambassador of the music. Pianist and composer Ellen Rowe brings her critically-acclaimed album project featuring compositions “by women, for women” and the DIVA Jazz Orchestra closes out the month.
Late Night Sessions also return with a packed weekly lineup of established and emerging talent.
