Vocalist-actress Christine Andreas returned to 54 Below with S’Wonderful, an evening that lived up to its name. With her husband and longtime musical director Martin Silvestri at the piano, Andreas offered a luminous journey through love and life, and the songs that have shaped both.
Opening with “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever,” her voice—radiant and agile—filled the room with effortless warmth. Andreas’s artistry lies not only in her pristine tone but in her emotional candor; she makes every lyric feel newly lived. A highlight was her exquisite rendition of “Anema e Core” (Salve D’Esposito, Tito Manlio), sung first in Italian and then in English. The shift in language mirrored the song’s tender universality, and Silvestri’s accompaniment wrapped it in understated elegance.
Andreas also brought touching depth to “Love Don’t Need a Reason,” written by Silvestri and Joel Higgins, honoring the creative bond she shares with her husband. Andreas also revisited the World War II era with warmth and wit before closing with a song that perfectly encapsulated the evening’s spirit—Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s “What the World Needs Now Is Love.”
Christine Andreas doesn’t simply perform—she connects. S’Wonderful was a reminder that the finest cabaret doesn’t depend on spectacle, but on truth, taste and heart. And on this night, Andreas had all three in abundance.
