Cabaret artist and playwright, Bronwyn Rucker, returns to Don’t’ Tell Mama with My Anita Riff, her poignant memoir of time spent with legendary jazz singer Anita O’Day during O’Day’s last year performing in New York City. Performances are on Mondays, September 17 and 24 at 7 PM. My Anita Riff, written and performed by Rucker, features Ritt Henn on bass, and is directed by Aaron Morishita and Jay Rogers.
Rucker has been on the New York cabaret scene since 1980, first appearing at the original Duplex on Grove Street with her one-woman show, Subway Named Desire, directed by Bruce Hopkins. She is known in the West Village for The Frolics, an open-mic event at various venues and for the Backyard Fair at Julius’. Recent performances include Dixon Place with the play Storage, co-written with Matt Rydell; Midtown Arts Festival with her show, The Radon Daughters, directed by Jason Ellis; and at 53 Above with The Frolics, co-produced with John Philip.
