Following an outcry from all ends of the theatre and cabaret communities, the Broadway League has reversed its decision to dim the lights at only six theatres in honor of Marin Mazzie.

The following statement was issued by the Broadway League:

“Due to community support, The Committee of Theatre Owners has decided to dim the lights of all Broadway theatres on Friday, September 21 at exactly 6:45pm for one minute in honor of beloved performer Marin Mazzie,” reads a statement.

It seems that public outcry and peaceful protests can achieve things which are perceived to be unfair, unjust and just plain wrong. Kudos to the friends, family and fans of this wonderful Broadway star for making this happen. Perhaps the League has to do some thinking where its traditions are concerned. This is how we honor our colleagues and that’s something that should not be decided by a bunch of people on a “committee,” but simply an honor to be given to all Broadway stars of Mazzie’s caliber.
