Beach aficionados know that fall at the seaside has a very special appeal. Likewise, autumn at the Beach Cafe brings its own allure, with two stellar stars of cabaret, poised to deliver the high-octane shows they’re noted for.
Broadway powerhouse Carol Woods, appearing on October 21 at 9:15 PM, is, without doubt, as Rex Reed called her, “a spectacular performer.” Her show, Ain’t We Got Fun: The Music of Richard A. Whiting, is an electrifying evening of the composer’s superb music. Whiting’s blues, jazz, ballads and novelties have been masterfully arranged by Hubert “Tex” Arnold to showcase Wood’s strengths; she is a consummate storyteller with a theatrical flair. This 2017 MAC and Bistro Award winner not only sings with great heart and spirit, but promises to deliver a lot of fun, too. Stephen Holden of The New York Times said of her, “Miss Wood’s strongest individual asset is a playful, outgoing sense of humor, which surfaces in naughty novelties.” For tickets, follow this link: Carol Woods at the Beach.
The elegant Karen Akers returns to the Beach Café on November 25. The statuesque diva will reprise some of her favorite numbers from two previous outings at the Café, Karen Akers Sings Porter and Time Flies. She has a four-decades-long career in cabaret and on the Broadway stage to draw from. Her wealth of experience makes for a night of intimate stylings filled with emotion and interpretive excellence. The New York Times’ Stephen Holden called her “a many-leveled singing actress,” writing, “You can feel Ms. Akers’s emotional tension in the flexible timbre of a dark alto.” Karen Akers will be accompanied on piano by the inimitable maestro, Alex Rybeck.
Mark your calendars: New Year’s Eve at the Beach Café brings Mark Nadler and KT Sullivan together on December 31. The duo’s special chemistry is the perfect and festive way to bring in the New Year.
