Actress and singer Ann Kittredge returns to the New York stage with a brand-new cabaret show entitled Ann Kittredge: It’s About Time. Following a preview performance in October, the show premieres on November 29, 2016, 7:00 pm at the Metropolitan Room, located at 34 West 22nd Street in Manhattan, and promises to be a unique storytelling journey, featuring many of Kittredge’s musical theatre favorites.
Audiences may recognize Ann from her numerous Broadway, off-Broadway, and regional theatre appearances over the years. After stepping away from the spotlight to focus on her children—and all the volunteer opportunities that entailed—she returns to the theatre in this joyful and musically rich collaboration with Musical Director and longtime friend, Wendy Bobbitt Cavett.
It’s About Time represents the cabaret debut for both Kittredge and Cavett. The duo has put together a remarkable representation of songs from the musical theatre repertoire that spans the years, emphasizing the unique, the unknown, and the story-telling dramatic nature that Ann loves to express. Ann and Wendy are also thrilled to welcome bassist Mary Ann McSweeney to join them at this premiere performance.
Kittredge’s husband Bob claims he has “been married to at least three different women, but they are all Ann.” One thing is for sure: Ann answers to the beat of her own drum—and the orchestra’s drum when it matters. Whether a song evokes lunacy, love, longing, curiosity, challenge or deep awakening, Ann’s greatest passion is interpreting its nuance and lighting up an audience’s face with recognition of a shared experience.
Regarding the show’s title, Kittredge chose It’s About Time, because nothing has ever fulfilled Ann more than storytelling, and it’s been too long since she stepped away from the stage to raise her children. It’s about time for her to explore the art form of cabaret as a solo artist, it’s about time some of the music she has selected be shared with an audience, it’s about time her children experienced her passion and dedication to something she loves (other than them).
Kittredge hopes that audiences will come to her show and “leave with a smile or a conversation, or be transported to another place. I want people to laugh, cry, even heckle a little—and join me in writing this new chapter of my life.”
