Tony, Emmy and Grammy winner André De Shields, with Andrew Polec and Bradley Dean will appear in Jim Steinman and Barry Keating’s Rhinegold in concert at the Laurie Beechman Theatre on Friday, July 14 at 7 PM and 9:30 PM.
De Shields first appeared in the cult musical as Loki The Fire God, in 1973. He will be joined by Bradley Dean as Odin, and Andrew Polec as Thor. Rhinegold is based on Richard Wagner’s Das Rheingold opera, written in 1869. The musical played the Mercer Arts Center in 1973, followed by a run at Playwrights Horizons in 1975.
Now declared and acclaimed as a “Broadway Deity,” De Shields is an actor, activist, educator and philanthropist. He is the recipient of the 89th Annual Drama League Award for Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theater and in 2019 garnered Tony, Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk and Grammy Awards for his role as Hermes in Hadestown. He was most recently seen on Broadway as Ben Loman in the 2023 revival of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. Over the years he has also been seen in The Wiz, Ain’t Misbehavin (Emmy Award), Play On! and The Full Monty.
