The self-proclaimed “21st-Century Vaudevillienne” and “Cabaret Necromantress,” chanteuse Artemisia LeFay presents Phantoms of the Cabaret on Friday, March 24 at the Triad Theater at 7 PM. Pianist Hannah Mount is joined by violinist Henry Burby and accordionist Mary Spencer Knapp.
LeFay conjures up rare cabaret gems dug up from the graveyards of Europe, evocative contemporary dark cabaret, and brand-new and historically inspired original cabaret pieces from her upcoming “Wasted Girl” album. Featured are the songs of Holländer, Weill, Spoliansky, Brecht and more, which pay homage to the creatives o Weimar Berlin to interwar Paris to early 20th century New York City. Not only is the show a celebration of the widely varied repertoire of the era (from gritty historical statements to comedy pieces to torch songs wailed by Zarah Leander and Lya de Putti on Friedrichstraße), but a programme of music as told by the voices and music of characters who lived Berlin’s Goldenejahre.
Tickets are $20, with a 2-beverage minimum per person. To purchase, click here.
