Longtime friends and collaborators, Alysha Umphress and Jeff Blumenkrantz are reuniting on Sunday, April 9 at 6 PM at Joe’s Pub.
This is the first time in a while that the two have appeared together to deliver an evening of jazzy story-driven music. You’ll hear highlights from their album I’ve Been Played: Alysha Umphress Swings Jeff Blumenkrantz as well as some fresh new arrangements just in time for spring. “This show will feel like a warm hug from someone you’re very fond of.”
Vocalist, Broadway and TV actress Umphress (who was a Starduster at Ellen’s Stardust Diner at the beginning of her career) has been seen on Broadway as Hildy in On the Town as well as Smokey Joe’s Cafe, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, American Idiot, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Bring it On. She’s also known for TV work in “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “Blue Bloods” and “The Right Girl,” among others. Tony-nominated songwriter Blumenkrantz began collaborating in 2014. The latter received a Best Score Tony nomination for Urban Cowboy, the musical. His songs have been recorded by Audra McDonald, Sutton Foster, Rebecca Luker, Victoria Clark, Megan Mullally and more. As a performer, he starred as ‘The Suspects’ in the Off-Broadway musical, Murder for Two.
