Alpher & Litt In 3: Our Love Affair With The Waltz, Returns to Don’t Tell Mama June 9th & 15th

Husband and wife songwriting and cabaret duo David Alpher (composer/pianist) and Jennie Litt (lyricist/singer) chase the ghost of the Viennese waltz through the popular music of the 20th and 21st century in their new cabaret show, Alpher & Litt In 3: Our Love Affair With The Waltz. The show returns to The Brick Room at Don’t Tell Mama on Saturday, June 9 at 4 PM and on Friday, June 15 at 7 PM.

The Viennese waltz, with its sweeping lilting melodies, charm and elegance, entered the world stage in the 1880s, when Johann Strauss Junior, “The Waltz King,” composed classics such as the “Blue Danube” and the “Emperor Waltz.” In the popular imagination, the waltz continues to evoke champagne, diamond tiaras and the imperial ballrooms of Europe. Yet the waltz traces its roots as a folk-dance of the Austrian people—the “Ländler.”

Alpher & Litt explore the many uses of waltz time, as the love song—and the very concept of love—evolved through the 20th century. , directed by Eric Michael Gillett, is a celebration of romance, of times gone by, of songs that evoke their time, of 3/4 time itself and of our collective love affair with the waltz.
