Actress, writer, singer Elana Polin presents Jumping Off The Roof at The Triad Theatre on Saturday, December 13, and Sundays, December 14 and 21 all at 3:30 PM. In addition to Polin, the show features seven year old Kai Pucher-Parent as “The Child” and Veronica Carpenter as “The Fiddler.” Pianist Seth Weinstein will accompany the actors, underscore the show and provide commentary from the piano bench.
Polin explores the iconic seven member family from Fiddler on the Roof, this time with an alternate take on Tzeitel’s and Motel’s lives in the New World. In her “midrash on the sacred book of Tevye” we finally get to hear from the females — as Polin believes we’ve heard enough from the patriarch. Jumping Off The Roof employs music and puppetry, and draws style inspirations from Thornton Wilder’s Skin of Our Teeth, Sholom Aleichem’s Tevye the Dairy Man and the Hebrew Bible’s Book of Job, to ask: How does Tzeitel really feel about Motel, the tailor? How has the Dairyman mentality and community protected and prepared her for life?
Tickets are available at TRIADnyc.com. Cost is $25 plus $4.00 fee. Note: The TRIAD has waived the traditional 2-drink minimum for this show, however both drinks and desserts will be available a la carte.
The Triad Theater is located at 158 W. 72nd St. (Second Floor), NYC
