A Benefit for Ring of Keys Plays on Monday, March 17 at Joe’s Pub

A benefit for Ring of Keys, entitled Queering the Canon: A Retrospective, hosted by Miss Peppermint, celebrating its 7th anniversary of the artist-service nonprofit for queer women, trans, and nonbinary artists, will be held on Monday, March 17 at 9:30 PM at Joe’s Pub.  The annual gala features performances by renowned queer musical theatre artists, new songs by queer songwriters, a silent auction, testimonials and more.

Performers include Klea Blackhurst, Grant Evan, Esther Fallick, Samy Figaredo, Jack Haven, Natalie Joy Johnson, Jade Jones, Jari Billie Sadé Jones, Petralina Lambert, Tomás Matos, Madison McBride, Jade McLeod, Rivkah Reyes, Sushma Saha and Murphy Taylor Smith. Original work by songwriters includes Joanna Burns; Andi Lee Carter; Lucier&Rose; Lindsey Augusta Mercer; Zeniba Now & Rodney Bush; Anessa Marie Scolpini and Pearl Rhein

The gala includes the latest installment of the organization’s Queering the Canon series, which reimagines canonical songs as more expansive and inclusive through casting and performance. Audiences will experience these songs queered alongside a new canon of works written in response to the originals. Queering the Canon: A Retrospective is a roundup of song pairings from past Queering the Canon concerts. In addition to the concert, the evening will include a silent auction featuring exclusive items, customized experiences, and food and travel packages. Audiences will also hear from Keys and other artists who have been positively impacted by Ring of Keys’ work.

RIng of Keys is a 501(c)3 nonprofit was created to counter the lack of parity and opportunity in musical theatre for queer women, transgender, and nonbinary artists, as well as the broader LGBTQI+ community’s absence from significant representation onstage and off. With the belief that musical theatre is so gay but not queer, Ring of Keys strives to create a vibrant and diverse musical theatre landscape.The mission of Ring of Keys is embodied through three pillars of programming: new work development, learning and professional development, and community building.
