The Legendary Sheila Jordan Plays the Iridium Two Nights Only – Saturday, November 4 and Sunday, November 5

The overused epithet “legendary” certifiably applies to vocalist Sheila Jordan. The world-traveling octogenarian has lived the jazz life and has loved every second of it. Jordan will be in town for two nights only, appearing at the The Iridium jazz club on Saturday, November 4 at 8:30 and 10:30 PM, and on Sunday, November 5 at 8:30 PM. Backing her is The Steve Kuhn Trio, with Kuhn on piano, Aiden O’Donnell on bass and Billy Drummond on drums.

Bebop icon and saxophone great Charlie Parker often introduced her as “the singer with the million dollar ears.” Her mellow tonality and superb vocal shadings and phrasings are why noted critic and jazz authority, Scott Yanow, said of her, she’s “one of the most consistently creative of all jazz singers.” Whether a songbook standard or one of her own compositions, Jordan has a reputation for complete authenticity and the ability to interpret a lyric with piercing emotion. Downbeat magazine deemed that she “reigns indisputably as mellow mistress of any jazz club she visits.” Jordan also has been honored by the National Endowment for the Arts as a 2012 NEA Jazz Master.
