Rick Is My Pick! NiteLife Pick of the Week: Rick Skye Returns (“Liza’s Back,” folks)

By ROB LESTER**** Friday is Skye Day!  Want a sure sassy bet and belt?  It’s Liza with a Z and “the guy named Skye” with an E at the end of his name– who also used to work with the puppet Madame (with an E) doing a new monthly series at Don’t Tell Mama where his Slice o’ Minnelli used to work with “mama” Judy Garland aka Tommy Femia for one of the longest-ongoing-going-going-gone double acts in cabaret.  It’s a truly terrific, absolutely true story–Get ready, get set, GO to Bazaaz! A Sequined Variety.

Rick reunites with namesake Ricky (prounced Rick-E, but without an E) Ritzel, another cabaret veteran of major status as music director back at their old stomping grounds at the 343 West 46 Street cabaret where the lady most associated with the song “Cabaret” (due to starring in the film and singing it as her theme all these years) has actually popped in.  The ever-entertaining Mr. Skye, a recent MAC Award winner for his pre/post-Millennium Minnelli –joining Ritzel in collecting those awards — revamps the format by serving as a host- of -or is that hostess (not the cupcake) of a multi-performer show once each month, with the debut being this Friday, October 27.  Show time to come to the cabaret, old chum, is 7 PM.  And the special musical guests of the live show are not only deceased, but were the last act to play the temporarily dead/soon to reincarnate Metropolitan Room–  Lee Squared, meaning Liberace and Peggy Lee …or “reasonable facsimiles” as DTM impresario and award-winning performer Sidney Myer is known to say.   Now Lee Squared is, for a night, lee Cubed, if you count Minnel-LEE.  Comedy guest is the ever-popular Nancy Witter and the Kit Kat Boys are regulars, making the Kit Kat Bar more than candy, but a new destination/hangout.

Bazaaz! A Sequined Variety is the name of the Pick of this chic week.

Don’t Tell Mama is located at 343 West 46th Street in New York City. There is a $20.00 Cover/2 Drink Minimum (Cash only). Reservations can be made at www.donttellmamanyc.com.
