Marlene VerPlanck/Once There Was A Moon

CD Review/Marlene VerPlanck/Once There Was A Moon/ACD-338

I think that pop-jazz Diva Marlene VerPlanck and her compelling vocal talents help to define the idiom of jazz and vocal jazz which we all love and nurture by default. Her new vocal CD project ''Once There Was A Moon'' is a magisterial, and lively overview of why we are so enthusiastic about an idiom which we here in the good ole' USA have helped to invent....

The American Songbook!! VerPlanck demonstrates her concern for both the harmonic-melodic content of her music, but also her 'touch' for the individual note(s) that bring life to her songs, i.e. (her empathy to choose and accentuate certain notes, words, etc.) You can't help but be moved by the delivery of her signature tune ''Once There Was A Moon'' because of her sense of responsibility for the meaning of the lyric. Hidden national treasure she is! Marlene's overall vocal talents bespeak a person lost in the essence of her inate ability to dissect a song for us her listeners, for which a song may help to give meaning to one's life. Long may she reign.
