Following her co-starring role in M. Night Shyamalan’s hit film Split and the release of her new album Story Songs, BETTY BUCKLEY — Tony Award winner, Theater Hall of Fame 2012 honoree and legendary Broadway star — will offer a five-day Song Interpretation & Monologue Intensive Workshop at New York’s T. Schreiber Studio from October 2 to 6. One of the foremost professional theatre studios in New York City, established in 1969, T. Schreiber has been a home and training ground for many artists who have gone on to successful careers in theatre, film, and television. Buckley will assist aspiring artists, educators and experienced performers in the craft of singing, acting and storytelling.
Buckley will perform Story Songs at The Tilles Center on Long Island (October 7, tickets HERE) and introduce Story Songs #2 — a new collection of music arriving on the heels of her nationally-acclaimed album, Story Songs — at Joe’s Pub at the Public in New York (October 12-15, tickets HERE).
Of her work in Split, critics are saying:
“Dr. Fletcher, who lives alone in a gracious, book-stuffed rowhouse and who is played by the wonderful Betty Buckley. Dr. Fletcher’s primary function is to explain the movie to the audience, foreshadowing the climax with her heterodox pseudo-scholarly theories about her many-sided patient, but Ms. Buckley also provides a dimension of warmth and wit that “Split” would be much duller and uglier without.” — A. O. Scott, The New York Times — January 19, 2017
“Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), clearly looking for help. (This veteran is such a glowing star of musical theater, from Cats to Grey Gardens, that you might forget what a superb dramatic actress she is.) This psychiatrist is meant to fill us in on Kevin’s condition – a sort of human exposition. Yet the stellar Buckley brings such warmth and conviction to the role that she allows us to see Kevin as a human being and not just a construct for tricked-up suspense.” — Peter Travers, Rolling Stone — January 18, 2017
Of her show Story Songs which was recorded live:
“…her stunning new show Story Songs, arguably the strongest cabaret of her career…Ms. Buckley, her voice in excellent shape, gave everything she sang the shape and depth of a personal confession.” – Stephen Holden, The New York Times – September 23, 2016
“Here’s an opportunity to work with one of the great artists of our time!” — Terry Schreiber
